In an upcoming session from August 25 to 28, China’s National People’s Congress Standing Committee is poised to examine a new draft law targeting cross-border corruption. This proposed legislation is part of an effort to bolster the country’s anti-corruption measures and enhance global collaboration to pursue and extradite corrupt officials and fugitives who have escaped overseas. Identified as a legislative priority for the current term, this initiative is slated to be a key focus through 2026.
China has ramped up its actions to track down and bring back individuals accused of corruption who have sought refuge abroad. According to the nation’s primary anti-corruption agency, in 2025 alone, 963 fugitives accused of corruption were successfully repatriated to China. This highlights the ongoing dedication to intensifying efforts against graft and corruption, both domestically and internationally.
The legislative session will also cover a wide array of other draft laws and amendments. Lawmakers are expected to review proposals concerning healthcare security, farmland protection, and agricultural policies. Additionally, discussions will address matters related to national defense mobilization, banking regulation, water management, and road traffic safety, showcasing a comprehensive agenda aimed at addressing various domestic concerns.
