EPC Begins Mass Production of 100V GaN Power Stages for Motor Drives

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC), a leader in semiconductor technology, has commenced mass production of its 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage integrated circuit (IC) family. This product line includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 models, which are tailored for high-performance motion-control applications. These ePower™ Stage ICs feature an integrated design that combines high-side and low-side eGaN® field-effect transistors (FETs), gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry within compact, thermally enhanced QFN packages to boost power density and efficiency while simplifying system design.

Capable of supporting operations up to 100 V, the ICs offer current ratings of 35 A and 20 A, varying by model. The devices come equipped with advanced features such as fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss conditions, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. Additionally, single-input pulse-width modulation (PWM) options are available, making them suitable for multi-axis motor control applications.

In conjunction with the new IC family, EPC has introduced a series of three-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor-drive evaluation boards—EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131. These platforms are designed around the latest power-stage ICs and incorporate gate drivers, as well as current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, and temperature monitoring and protection functions. These products are accessible globally through distributors like Digi-Key and Mouser.

The new GaN power-stage ICs are priced competitively, with the EPC23108 and EPC23109 models available at $3.70 each and the EPC23110 and EPC23111 models priced at $2.47 each for orders of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards EPC91128 and EPC91129 are priced at $640 each, while the EPC91130 and EPC91131 are available for $630 each. Target applications for these devices include humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters.

Adding to its resources, EPC is also releasing a technical white paper in both English and Chinese. This document will cover the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for the new integrated GaN power-stage ICs.
