India has emphasized the importance of maintaining peace along its border with China to ensure the continued development of bilateral relations. This stance was reiterated during a meeting between India’s National Security Adviser, Ajit Doval, and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. The meeting represented the 25th round of talks aimed at resolving the long-standing boundary dispute between the two nations. Discussions at this meeting centered on advancing boundary delimitation, improving border management, and enhancing cooperation across the frontier.

Both nations positively assessed the progress made in their bilateral relations and explored ways to maintain stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). They reaffirmed their dedication to achieving a political resolution to the boundary issue in line with their long-term interests. This dialogue follows the 2024 agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which aimed to ease tensions in the Ladakh sector and has since led to the resumption of people-to-people exchanges, the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, and border trade via designated routes.

Ajit Doval noted that the normalization of bilateral ties is closely linked to maintaining peace along the border. Meanwhile, China indicated that the boundary issue should be considered within the broader context of the overall relationship. Despite these discussions, neither side revealed significant details regarding progress on the demarcation of the disputed boundary.

Both nations agreed to continue negotiations and are set to hold the next round of special representative talks in India in 2027. These discussions are particularly significant as they precede the anticipated visit of Xi Jinping to India for the BRICS summit in September, highlighting efforts to further stabilize bilateral relations.
