Hong Kong and Uzbekistan have reached an agreement to establish a mutual visa-free travel policy, allowing visitors from both regions to stay for up to 30 days without requiring a visa. The accord was formalized through an exchange of official notes, witnessed by Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee and Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov. Both governments are now focusing on finalizing the implementation details, aiming to launch the new arrangement promptly.
At present, Hong Kong passport holders enjoy a visa-free stay in Uzbekistan for up to 10 days, while those holding ordinary Uzbek passports still need a visa to enter Hong Kong. The new mutual visa-free policy is expected to bolster economic, trade, tourism, educational, and business relations between the two areas. This move aligns with Hong Kong’s broader strategy to enhance cooperation with emerging Central Asian markets.
The announcement has already sparked interest within the travel industry, with tour operators beginning to offer a growing number of travel packages to Uzbekistan and other destinations in Central Asia. The introduction of a visa-free arrangement is anticipated to facilitate greater people-to-people exchanges, fostering long-term economic collaboration between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan.
