Chinese President Xi Jinping has underscored the need for enhanced ecological conservation and sustainable green development during a recent visit to Ulanqab in Inner Mongolia. His visit emphasized the importance of wetland restoration, biodiversity protection, and environmentally friendly computing infrastructure.

At the Huangqihai Lake nature reserve, Xi evaluated the success of conservation efforts to restore the lake, which had been threatened by drying due to climatic and other pressures. Over the years, these conservation measures have succeeded in expanding the lake’s water body. Xi highlighted the critical need to enforce China’s wetland protection law, protect biodiversity, and maintain strict ecological protection boundaries. He also advocated for prioritizing natural restoration of degraded wetlands, with scientific interventions as necessary.

During his inspection, Xi also visited the Chahar High-Tech Development Zone to assess the progress of China’s “East Data, West Computing” initiative. This initiative aims to redistribute computing resources across the nation effectively. Xi stressed the importance of ensuring that completed projects are operated efficiently and that ongoing developments are completed according to schedule. He encouraged authorities and industry stakeholders to promote efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe computing infrastructures, which are crucial for advancing China’s digital economy and supporting sustainable development.

In addition to ecological and technological initiatives, Xi reviewed local agricultural and livestock products. He urged officials to better connect production with markets to enhance the incomes of farmers and herders in the region.
