China is set to bolster its imports of advanced technology, essential industrial components, energy resources, and premium agricultural products as part of its forthcoming 15th Five-Year Plan, covering the years 2026 to 2030. This strategic move is designed to foster industrial modernization, stimulate domestic consumption, and offer Chinese consumers a broader selection of quality products from international markets. Additionally, China aims to diversify its import sources, broadening the range of countries from which it acquires goods.
In the first half of the current year, the country witnessed double-digit growth in both imports and exports, with imports surpassing exports. This surge is attributed to an increased domestic demand for advanced equipment, technology, and consumer goods. Officials emphasize that the expanding consumer market within China is anticipated to create significant opportunities for global businesses as domestic consumption continues its upward trajectory.
Moreover, China plans to enhance market access for international agricultural and food products by simplifying quarantine and import approval processes. This year alone, China has approved market access for 264 categories of agricultural and food products from 79 new countries, bringing the total to over 150 countries and regions from which it sources imported food. This initiative underscores China’s commitment to greater market openness and diversified trade.
